Course Structure and Content

This degree explores the creation, recording and production of music and sound using specialised computer music software and hardware. Music studies in harmony, composition and orchestration are also examined, along with complementary explorations into computer animation.

Particular emphasis during the degree is placed upon digital music, within the context of multimedia, the web, computer games, virtual worlds, animation, film and television or to create stand-alone musical pieces.

Each student will produce a portfolio of work, including linear soundtracks and interactive music and sound products.

The practical experience gained is based upon the use of industry-standard software and equipment in laboratories and a recording studio dedicated to digital music studies.

Studies in animation complement the core music studies outlined above and enhance a student's experience and employability within this area of specialisation.

The combination of academic studies and intensive creative practical work will prepare graduates for jobs in the music, multimedia, television, computer games and film industries in general and the computer animation industry in particular.

Students may choose to spend a year in industry after their second year or opt to continue immediately with their final year options.

Course Structure and Content

Full time undergraduate degrees are taught over three years at the university, plus perhaps, a "sandwich" year in industry after the second year.

These are the modules you could expect to study on this course. The modules you can choose in your Second and Final years will depend on those you have studied in preceeding years. Also, some second and final year modules may be changed or restructured in order to keep the course up to date with latest trends in the industry.
