Course Structure and Content

BSc (Hons) Information Technology looks at advances in computing with a relevance to business organisations, particularly aspects such as multimedia, computer-supported co-operative working and the Internet/Intranet.

Information technology is the name given to the computing activities that are undertaken by people in the course of their other work. In practice, It means the application of technology to facilitate, improve and expand the collection, processing, storage, retrieval and communication of information by an organisation for the control and advantage of that organisation. In particular emphasis is placed on Networks and IT communications.

Throughout the course, students gain a basic grounding in organisational structure and a thorough understanding of IT. They are encouraged to look at how to develop solutions that best fit the overall structure and the needs of an organisation. Ultimately, students should be able to develop and generate their own applications to meet specific organisational needs. Students will develop their communication skills and gain experience of working in a team environment.

Students may choose to spend a year in industry after their second year or opt to continue immediately with their final year options.
