Stockton Riverside College is situated just off the A66, near Teesside Park. The Foundation Degree in Computing (Networking) is delivered by the College's School of Technology and Computing in conjunction with the University of Teesside.
This course is appropriate for those who wish to become computer networking/IT specialists. Typical study modules include Networking Theory, Routers and WAN Technologies.
The course is part time and attendance is required on two evenings a week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays in Year 1. Years 2 and 3 may involve different evenings).
Students will also gain a broad knowledge base in a wide area of computer based topics, including IT Applications, Principles of Maintaining Computer Systems, System Design and User Support. Time is also spent on improving study skills through Professional Studies.
Work Based Learning is a part of this degree and will involve students undertaking activities at employer's premises for the equivalent of 1 day a week.
The College has 370 networked PCs, with software that includes Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office XP and Macromedia Dreamweaver. In addition to the networked PCs, the College also has three networking laboratories each containing 16 computers on an independent network which can be fully configured by students using switches, routers and hubs.
The degree has been designed to enable successful students to progress straight onto the final year of the University's BSc (Hons) Degree in Computer Studies. Students will also be eligible to take the CISCO Academy exams if they desire.
