UCAS Code : 016G HND/CSD
This course covers hardware (the behaviour and interaction of the electronic components from which computers are constructed), software (the computer programs) and methodologies (the techniques used in the analysis and design processes for computer systems).
There is a strong bias towards the programming aspects of computing, which may include programming for the World Wide Web, depending on option choices.
Although the course is vocational with a strong practical emphasis, fundamental principles and theory are also covered so that students can keep up to date with and understand future changes in computing.
Prior knowledge of computing, although helpful, is not essential.
Students can choose to take an elective (an optional extra module) to broaden their studies or to prepare for subsequent progression to a degree course.
By taking particular elective or option modules, students who complete the HND successfully may progress straight on to the second year of the BSc(Hons) degrees in Computer Science, Computing and Networks, Informatics, Software Engineering, Business Computing, Information Technology, Computer Programming or the final year of BSc (Hons) Computer Studies.
The overriding consideration when admitting students is whether they are likely to succeed on the course. In particular, mature students (over 21) may be exempt from the standard entry requirements. All prospective students are welcome to speak to an admissions tutor about their qualifications and which course is most likely to suit them.
These are the modules you could expect to study on this course.
Your choice of optional modules after your first year will depend on those you have studied in preceeding year(s). Also, it is possible that modules may occasionally be changed or restructured in order to keep the course up to date with latest trends in the industry.
