This course is appropriate for those who wish to focus on the creative authoring of websites using a combination of multimedia tools and techniques.
The course has three major topics: content creation including digital imaging, sound and video production, website development and mark up creation, multimedia authoring using applications and tools. Students will also address professional issues such as computer law and will work as part of a team within a substantial group project.
This course is vocational in approach with a strong practical emphasis on the utilisation of industry standard software tools so that students can keep up to date with and understand the ever-changing world of the web.
Students can choose to take an elective (an optional extra module) to broaden their studies or to prepare for subsequent progression to a degree course. Taking an elective can increase option choice in subsequent semesters.
By taking particular elective or option modules, students who pass the HND may be allowed to continue with their studies to honours degree level, progressing on to the second year of the BA(Hons) in Web Design or Digital Media Applications or BSc (Hons) Web Development, or the final year of BA (Hons) Creative Digital Media.
The overriding consideration when admitting students is whether they are likely to succeed on the course. In particular, mature students (over 21) may be exempt from the standard entry requirements. All prospective students are welcome to speak to an admissions tutor about their qualifications and which course is most likely to suit them.
