Distributed Database Systems

This course is intended to blend practitioner oriented techniques with theoretical underpinning to provide highly marketable database system administrators and decision makers. The course emphasizes applicability to the production of complex server-based database systems that physically distribute processing and data.

A database system administrator will have many responsibilities and these are covered generally, but the main focus of this course is on supporting:

Emphasis is also given on placing Database Systems within their organisational context and within business environments, giving a clear perspective of the current nature and practice of a Corporate Database System.

The course is suitable for both:

Assessment will normally encompass a case study which will have a specification of requirements and problems to solve (for example decisions on whether to scale-up or to scale-out).
