This module reviews and explores contemporary mobile device technology and its support for multimedia. Areas of study include the devices themselves, the development tools and operating environments, and the investigation of any design constraints placed upon the multimedia developer by the mobile devices.
The course identifies a number of underpinning multimedia technologies specifically targeted towards mobile devices and develops students' skills in these areas. Contemporary and emerging multimedia applications are discussed, and professional development environments and future and emerging issues considered.
The laboratory sessions and assessment vehicle offer opportunity to undertake practical development.
The module is assessed by a group-based In-course Assessment which will involve the design and implementation of a multimedia application for a mobile device.
