This module aims to give students a foundation of transferable animation skills, focusing on the teaching of generic animation principles using drawn animation techniques.

The aim of the module is also to develop observation skills and to explore how these skills can be transferred and reproduced in an animation context.

The skills of observation and timing developed will cover human and animal motion.

On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to

• Demonstrate knowledge of basic principles of animation in relation to observation and timing.
• Record real life movement and examine its physical properties.
• Demonstrate practical skills using a 2D digital animation system.
• Apply knowledge of real life movement and basic principles of animation to the production of 2D drawn animation sketches.
• Recognise and implement the theoretical implications of translating principles of animation into a computer environment.

Student achievement will be measured by an In-Course Assessment.
