This module presents aspects of contemporary musical theory and its practical application in the light of its highly important historical lineage.
The elements of today's music are investigated through study of its heritage in classical and traditional sources and how these sources have been adapted and assimilated to create the modern musical "palette". The full range of elements, from the basics of notation and keys through to modes, jazz scales and altered chords, are explored.
Theoretical concepts are taught through practical application where possible.
