This module is an introduction to the modelling, design, implementation and management of persistent data management systems.
The management of all data types is considered, including images and sound. Design issues associated with distributed database systems are introduced and a detailed treatment of SQL is provided.
Consideration is also given to issues concerned with the distribution of data within an enterprise. Database systems are considered to be digital, formally defined, shared, managed repositories of data utilised to produce information of value to an enterprise.
