The objective of the module is to introduce basic concepts and methodologies for digital image processing.

A student taking the module will learn the applications of image processing, as well as a variety of image processing techniques and mathematical principles that underpin the algorithms for performing these techniques.

The module content will be based on 2D image techniques, including image acquisitions and manipulations, as well as 3D image techniques such as depth maps and stereo images.

On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to

• Design solutions and strategies to solve image processing problems.
• Create practical applications by making use of 2D and 3D image processing techniques.
• Critically evaluate the implementation of the concepts and algorithms covered in the module via written report.

Student achievement will be measured by an In-Course Assessment.

Rendering is a pre-requisite for this module.
