
This module explores the concepts, techniques, forms and constitution of contemporary music making in order to allow the student to compose and arrange musical works.
The module brings together musical theory, analysis, stylistic considerations and the study of a wide range of modern and traditional musical instruments to show how musical works are composed and arranged. Thorough use of computer applications is made to identify such possibilities as score production, pre-audition and final realisation.
There is a strong emphasis on the practical application of theoretical principles, intended to consolidate and enhance the student's previous knowledge and experience.
Students will assimilate theoretical concepts and learn how to apply them correctly and effectively. They will also be made aware of technological advances relating to and affecting contemporary compositional, orchestration and arranging practice.
