This module introduces the student to the fundamentals of data communications, examining the characteristics of modern network transmission media.
The module introduces and explores modern computer network design concepts and associated performance issues. The functionality and services offered by network protocols are examined and applied to the delivery of specific network requirements.
Students will learn about the requirements of modern networking applications and how networks are designed and constructed to meet these requirements. They will also be introduced to concepts for building resilient, secure networks and factors that affect network performance and how to address these.
