This module places computer security and information security in the context of IT practice.

The module will introduce students to the general concepts of computer security, information security and the context of their practice.

Security management and operations security are covered during the module, as are the related concepts of continuity and recovery. Additionally, physical security and ethics are examined as an understanding of these is necessary for security practitioners.

This module provides a foundation for the more technical Security Technology module, as well as providing a general background in the subject.

On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to

• Describe and apply management concepts of computer and information security, including use of operations security, continuity and recovery and physical security.
• Demonstrate an awareness of, and compliance with, professional ethical standards.

Student achievement will be measured by examination at the end of the module.
