This module examines a range of security technologies, including access control, those relating to telecommunications and networks, architectures and models (including formal models) and system design. A technical examination of how systems fail to maintain security is also illustrated.

The module will introduce students to a range of specialist security concepts and will illustrate the application of a range of technologies, enabling students to apply these technologies in practice.

On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to

• Describe, evaluate and apply the most appropriate security techniques in simple and moderately complex scenarios.
• Explain and critically evaluate issues in information security.
• Create algorithms to perform 3D spatial data reconstruction from incomplete, sparse, and/or irregular data sources.
• Apply appropriate visualisation techniques to view reconstructed data.
• Critically evaluate solutions to a given reconstruction scenario via a written document.

Student achievement will be measured by an examination at the end of the module.

Principles of Security and Principles of Computers and one of C++ Programming 2 or Java Programming 2 or Visual Programming 2 are pre-requisites for this module.
