This module introduces students to the systems development life cycle and its processes.

Students are taught how object oriented analysis and design techniques can be used early in the life cycle and how project management and quality control techniques can be applied throughout the life cycle.

Software tools are used to support the modelling and management of systems. Methods, and how techniques fit into them, are introduced, and object-oriented methods are contrasted with method paradigms.

On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to

• Demonstrate understanding of object oriented systems analysis and design techniques by applying them to the modelling of simple systems.
• Use project management techniques to plan a project.
• Demonstrate understanding of quality management techniques and their place in the life cycle.
• Use software tools to support the modelling and management of systems.

Assessment is by an examination at the end of the module.
