Web Site Development

This module introduces a range of technologies and applications residing on the Internet, to raise the students' awareness of what Internet tools are available, who uses these tools and how are they used.

A second strand will enable the development of Web Pages utilising mark-up language and style sheets. An opportunity will also be provided for students to practice modelling, development, management and team working skills.

Students are introduced to a web development life cycle and are given an overview of a few web development methods. They are also shown how to develop web pages utilising mark-up language and cascading style sheets to accepted standards.

The module shows how web-based analysis and design techniques are used early in the life cycle and how project management and quality assurance/quality control techniques can be applied throughout. It introduces students to a web site development package and to testing, including the concepts of usability and accessibility.

Student achievement will be measured by an In-Course Assessment, which will have two elements. The first will assess XHTML and CSS skills and the second will assess analysis and design skills.
