Networking and databases are at the core of all computing information and control systems. This course specialises in the development and management of secure information systems within and outside the boundaries of organisations.
You will examine the production of complex server-based database systems and study computer and network security aspects. This will equip you with the knowledge of effective policies and professional preventative measures to solve problems occurring with networked computers.
You'll concentrate on some of the advanced aspects of the Java programming language, computer and network security, and the technologies for modern mobile and wireless communication. You'll also study further aspects of computer network and systems administration, distributed databases systems and develop your research skills. The final part will be devoted to your individual project.
All courses start in the September of each year, and the year is divided into two parts.
The taught part has 6 modules, each worth 20 credits, delivered between September and May. The second part is where you undertake an individual project of research and development. This is assessed at the end of the year (September) by a presentation and written dissertation, and is worth 60 credits.
If you do not wish to complete all the taught modules or project, there are three intermediate awards you can achieve instead of the full award of MSc.
