Creating Web Sites using HTML

Prerequisite: Introduction to IT

This module introduces two related themes. The first major theme is the development of web pages using a Hypertext Markup Language. The second theme is the process of developing those pages into a website which includes the design of page and site along with the study of quality and continuity issues.

Dreamweaver Project

10 credits Level 1
Prerequisite: None

This module builds on existing web authoring skills to teach you a range of techniques for creating professional web sites using an authoring package. Web authoring techniques will include forms, style sheets, tables, layers and templates.

Principles of Scripting

10 credits Level 1
Prerequisite: Creating Web Sites using HTML

This module introduces the fundamental concepts of the programming process through a web-oriented scripting language (JavaScript). It covers general principles that are applicable in all fields, but places them in the context of a web environment.

Client-Side Web Page Scripting

10 credits Level 1
Prerequisites: EITHER Principles of Scripting OR Introduction to Visual Programming and Creating Websites using HTML

Following on from Principles of Scripting, this module introduces JavaScript and dynamic HTML to create interactive web pages. Learn how to validate user forms, insert dynamic text into web pages, automatically swap images and many other techniques to help produce exciting websites.

Creating Server-side Applications

10 credits Level 2
Prerequisites: EITHER Principles of Scripting OR Creating Website Using HTML and Further Visual Programming

This module equips you with the practical skills necessary to develop a server-side information system that uses data from one or more existing databases and has a web front-end. The module is delivered in two modes either using open source (PHP/MySQL) technologies or the Microsoft .NET platform.
