This module explores the operation and management of industry standard Network Operating Systems (NOS) such as NetWare and Windows. The main focus will be on security and user management. You will learn how to oversee a complex network environment with Windows and NetWare servers using Microsoft Active Directory (AD) and Novell Directory Services (NDS) administration tools.

This module takes a detailed look at the design and installation of Local Area Networks (LAN) wiring standards and ongoing monitoring of a LAN.
The module covers cabling, switching, routing and the installation of LAN hardware and Virtual LANS (VLANS). LAN protocols, addressing schemes and the concepts of network security, firewalls, power supply protection are also covered.

Wireless networking takes a look at the installation of wireless access points for a small office or home network and the importance of security measures on such a network. The module also considers the issues involved in connecting a small wireless network to the Internet and the ongoing management of the network.
