This is a part-time course aimed at practicing teachers who are employed in primary, secondary or special needs education. The course is run at Redcar and Cleveland ICT Centre and takes place over two years with students attending classes one evening a week at the centre. Students focus their studies within their particular educational setting.
The course has three modules, each worth 20 Masters' level credits. The first two are delivered in year 1, and the third, leading the Postgraduate Certificate award, is delivered in year 2.
The University Certificate in Postgraduate Professional Development may be awarded on completion of two modules
Year 1
ICT in the Curriculum (runs for 15 weeks from September to January)
This aims to raise teacher awareness of the learning needs of all children within a particular educational setting (Primary, Secondary and Special) and develop professional knowledge, skills and understanding across all the ICT areas of focus within education.
ICT Professional Toolkit (runs for 15 weeks from February to June)
This module addresses the issue that ICT is integral to both professional and curriculum aspects of education. IT has the potential to support learning, teaching, communication and research, management and analysis and improvement of performance at both pupil and school level. Teachers will look at a particular area of focus and explore, experience and evaluate the role that ICT can play in supporting specific objectives effectively.
Year 2
ICT Subject Specialism (runs for 30 weeks from September to June)
This module focuses on a range of current and new technologies to support integration of ICT in the curriculum and its place as a tool to support the learning process, providing exciting and enriching learning opportunities and extending the boundaries of learning. Sessions will address issues such as the development of personal skills in the use of the technology, investigating its support in the curriculum and planning opportunities for use in school. Teachers will develop an area pf personal expertise relevant to their specialism or level.

This course is administered and delivered by Redcar and Cleveland ICT Centre (RACIT).
