This highly active team of academics and postgraduate research students is interested in all aspects of web development and use. The group has developed a web method -- SWM (Simple Web Method) -- designed to support both students and industry practitioners in the development of high quality, maintainable web-based information systems. The underlying philosophy of this approach is reducing the complexity and overhead of the method to the minimum. This has led to the development of tool support for web analysts, web programmers and student developers, such as PAWS (Project Administration Web Site) and ASCENTW (tool providing diagramming and automated code generation to ASP, PHP and ASP.NET). Other areas of interest include the use of multimedia in websites, business strategy and the web, and the social impact of the World Wide Web. This group is developing an international reputation for contributing to the emerging discipline of Web engineering especially within the domain of education The group hosts practical events including a unique workshop on Web Engineering in higher education.
