Computing has become the central nervous system of modern business, commerce and industry - many companies would cease to function effectively without it. Information Technology touches every aspect of enterprise and is critical to the continued growth of the World economy. Consequently there is a well-established demand for Information Technology professionals in all areas of industry, business and society as a whole.
Information Technology at Teesside was first delivered as a degree pathway in 1985. We have been constantly reviewing the computer related activities which are undertaken by people in the support of Business and Commerce and today the course reflects the worlds dependency on networked computers and the Internet.
The BSc (Hons) Information Technology degree looks at advances in computing with a relevance to business organisations, particularly aspects such as multimedia, computer-supported co-operative working and the Internet/Intranet.
Students on the BSc (Hons) Business Computing pathway will learn how to analyse, design, construct and manage computer-based information systems that can be delivered via networked computers on a company intranet or the Internet. In addition to looking at how the more traditional information technologies can improve internal business processes, students learn about emerging technologies and explore their potential for business organisations.
The new BSc (Hons) Information Technology & Networks degree is designed to meet the high demand for graduates with knowledge and experience in IT and the effective management of networked computer systems.
These degree pathways share a common first year which makes it possible to move between the pathways up until the beginning of the second year.
It is possible for students to spend the third year on a supervised work placement within a relevant sector of the computer industry. This allows students to gain valuable industry experience in a relevant sector of the computing industry, whilst getting paid.
